The Relief People Feel After Catching Up on Several Years of Taxes

One thing I notice often when helping clients catch up on multiple years of tax filings is the amount of stress they’ve been carrying before reaching out. Many people spend months or even years worrying about their unfiled taxes before finally deciding to deal with the situation.

By the time they contact my office, they often feel embarrassed or unsure about what the process will involve.

The reality is that bringing several years of tax filings up to date is usually much more manageable than people expect once there is a clear plan. The first step is identifying which years need to be filed and gathering the financial records for those periods.

For individuals with employment income, much of the required information can often be obtained directly from the CRA. For self-employed individuals, we typically review bank deposits and business records to reconstruct the income and expenses for each year.

Once the returns are prepared and submitted, the CRA updates the taxpayer’s account with the correct calculations.

Many clients have told me that the biggest benefit of catching up on their taxes is simply the peace of mind that comes afterward. Some have even mentioned this in the reviews they’ve written about my services — the feeling that a long-standing problem has finally been resolved.

Addressing late tax filings can feel intimidating at first, but once the process begins, most people realize it’s a situation that can be fixed step by step.
